Family Home Evening

What do you do for FHE? Lately we've been going through the 13 Articles of Faith and discussing them and singing the corresponding Children song. Tonight we're on number 7. Speaking as one who barely managed to get the Articles of Faith memorized, I'm hoping to get the whole family to have them memorized eventually.

Sometimes though we've been doing fun family activities. Sometimes FHE lasts for a quick 5 minutes, but it gets done. That's the important part.

So, I'll ask again. What's your FHE like? I could always use the pointers/ideas!

Tonight we sang a song, talked about Jesus, and had a prayer. Chris and I are eating peach cobbler after Evaline goes down. So - no pointers here. :)

Song and prayer, Claps (totally stole it from Legally Blonde), Schedule, lesson (Jonathan & I trade off, I usually do a recap of my YW lesson, he chooses from the Conference talks), a story from the Friend (kids choose) w/ discussion, family scriptures, and another song & prayer.

We usually go over Jack's lesson from primary the day before. That way the topic gets reinforced and we can add our personal experiences and testimonies for him to hear. I know it's kind of a cop-out, but it saves me so much time in preparation!

Right now we are summarizing a chapter a week from the Gospel Principles manual for our FHE lessons. When James and Thomas were younger, we would pull out a picture or two from the Gospel Art Picture Kit and talk about the story or principle it depicted. And of course, songs and prayers and such.

Some friends of ours have a rotating monthly FHE plan. First week they have a sports activity, second week they do a service activity, third week they do something more in depth in the scriptures, fourth week they invite another family for dinner and a game. They're kids are 16-10 years old and it seems to work out really well for them.
